Frequently Asked Questions for Parents

Q1: Does Nest Learning offer specific support for exam pressure and anxiety for GCSE students?

A: Yes, with a focus on managing the pressure and anxiety that go beyond revision techniques. Our therapeutic approach helps teenagers manage the high-stakes anxiety of GCSEs and A-Levels, building emotional regulation to enhance academic strategies.

Q2: Can Nest Learning accommodate students with Selective/Situational Mutism or severe communication anxiety?

A: Our core expertise lies in anxiety-led non-attendance. We use structured, low-pressure communication techniques, including non-verbal methods and Drawing and Talking, to create a safe space for learners with Selective Mutism or acute social anxiety, integrating goals alongside any Speech and Language Therapy (SALT) they may receive.

Q3: What if we cannot afford your fees? Do you offer any financial flexibility?

A: We are committed to making our specialist support accessible. We actively guide families on accessing public funding sources (like EHCP personal budgets) and will prioritise accessing this, where it is available, to help minimise the cost to parents and carers.

Q4: How does your trauma-informed approach work differently for a child with a formal diagnosis (e.g. ASD)?

A: For a child with an ASD diagnosis, our holistic approach prioritises predictability, control, and emotional regulation, creating an environment that helps reduce anxiety. We don't just teach the curriculum; we adjust the entire learning environment and pace to minimise the anxiety inherent in their neurotype, which promotes genuine engagement.

Q5: How effective is your online therapeutic tutoring?

A: Our online therapeutic tutoring is highly effective and widely used. We utilise specialised interactive tools and platforms to maintain strong relationships, ensuring the session remains trauma-responsive, engaging, and personal, regardless of your location.

Q6: Do you use any specific learning programs or resources, or is every lesson custom-made?

A: Every session is 100% bespoke. We don't rely on off-the-shelf programs. We use the child's interests and emotional readiness to dictate the pace and content, meaning whether they are learning algebra or literacy, it is entirely personalised to their developmental and academic profile.

Q7: What is the process for tracking my child's non-academic progress (e.g., confidence, anxiety)?

A: We use observation and feedback-based metrics, often utilising simple check-in tools that the child engages with (like emotional scales). We provide regular session feedback to parents detailing not only academic progress but also measurable improvements in emotional regulation and self-belief.

Q8: Can you start quickly?

A: We aim to minimise waiting time, particularly for our most vulnerable families. While we require an initial discovery meeting to ensure a suitable match, our streamlined onboarding process is designed for a rapid start, particularly when a child has faced recent exclusion or severe attendance crisis.

Q9: Are you able to liaise directly with CAMHS or other external agencies?

A: Yes. We understand we are part of a wider support network. We routinely liaise with CAMHS, social services, paediatricians, and other therapists (with parental consent) to ensure a unified, multi-professional approach to your child's well-being.

Q10 : Will you only tutor children with EHCPs or other diagnoses?

A: Not at all. We welcome all school-aged learners (5+) who are facing educational barriers. Our focus is

on the holistic needs of the learner—addressing anxiety or trauma (where they exist), and learning style—not just formal diagnoses or documentation like an EHCP.
